Wedding photography for those slightly crazy couples!
North Yorkshire Wedding Photographer
Hold it right there! Let's pause for just a sec...
Now I’ll be honest, I totally suck at writing things. I probably procrastinated for ages before I finished this paragraph. It’s a bloody good job that I’m a wedding photographer and pictures are my words! I won’t say too much and I’ll let my images do the talking. After all, that is what you will be hiring me for. Further down this page is all the usual (sometimes cheesy) information you’d expect to find on a wedding photographer’s website and of course you are free to read it – that’s what it’s there for. However, I believe I can show you exactly who I am as a photographer, (and if we’ll be a perfect match!) in under 2 minutes and without you reading all those things you’ve probably read a million times already… take a look at my little video by clicking here.
Thanks for cruising on by today
Choosing your North Yorkshire wedding photographer can be overwhelming when there are so many choices. My one piece of advice… choose someone who fits your personality!
I bloomin’ love wedding photography and being able to document a day of so much importance which is about love, commitment and relationships between people is exciting and rewarding. Weddings are ace, I will happily talk all day about them.
Being given the opportunity to photograph such a special day and provide my awesome couples with images that evoke memories years from now that remind you of what you were feeling or even thinking is a privilege and why I love what I do. For me, every single wedding I am involved in is an absolute honour.
Whether you’ve chosen a rustic barn celebration, castle wedding, indoor or outdoor ceremony, a blessing or a church service, I would love to be there and capture your story.

What I do
I am super laid-back when I’m working and will pretty much just go with the flow, the last thing I want to do is add pressure and stress everyone out…that never makes for good images! I work hard to help people relax in front of the camera and bring out their personality. I love to have a laugh and a joke with my couples and get some banter going. So if you want to get a bit a daft, I am very much a bad influence and will encourage it! Generally speaking I’d describe my work as mainly documentary with a few arty bits thrown in and a sprinkle of pizazz. I’ll let my images speak for themselves – they are better at words than I am, ha!
I’m there for the daft moments, the downright crazy antics, to anticipate the big moments, the laughter, and the tears. And I’ll probably join you in doing most of these things! Included in all my wedding packages isn’t just your photography. You get my passion for my creative craft, and a daft sense of humour! (I’m the type of person who laughs at Aldi’s lemon on a pear ad). I have a wealth of experience around weddings and a big bank of knowledge which you are more than welcome to draw on, and not just about wedding photography, I have dressed many a bride when bridesmaids have struggled with those complicated corsets!
My North Yorkshire Wedding Photography service can also include engagement, save the date and trash the dress photo shoots.
Please do take a look at my portfolio and also my blog, to view some weddings I’ve had the pleasure to be a part of.

NORTH YORKSHIRE WEDDINGS GUIDE

How to Choose Your North Yorkshire Wedding Photographer
I do hope you are find what you are looking for today. But if my style is not for you, (after all, everyone’s taste is different) please feel free to have a read of my impartial guide to choosing a North Yorkshire wedding photographer! My brain is full of squishy wedding stuff you may fine useful and we don’t gate keep here.
First things first. let’s ask the all important question… Do I need a wedding photographer?
The short answer is yes! Don’t just take my word for it, fire up a Google search to find lots of couples who regretted it. Although many people have pro cameras and fancy lenses, or even modern smart phones that allow them to take good images, wedding photography is more than just taking snaps… it is about capturing those once in a lifetime memories. What those people don’t usually have is the training, the knowledge, the ability to anticipate moments and most importantly, the experience.
A professional wedding photographer has the experience, skills and training to capture your memories in the best quality photographs possible. A paid photographer is able to give you their undivided attention on the day, whereas a guest is part of the events happening throughout your day. And besides, you want your guests to be fully present with you to celebrate! A photographer can anticipate moments and capture every single detail of your day beautifully to present you with the story of your wedding.
Wedding photos are the memories of your special day.
They are the legacy of a new family and part of your family history. Your photos last a lifetime – you can re-live those moments over the years to come. Relying on Uncle George who has maybe indulged in a few too many glasses of wine, or your friends with the latest Iphone is probably not the best idea.
I know many couples are not able to pay much for their wedding photographer and will prioritise other things over photography. There is absolutely nothing wrong with that. After all, marrying the person you love is more important than anything else. But I urge you to do your research first. Make sure you know the risks and are going into it knowing that the results of the cheaper option just won’t be the same as someone with experience in shooting weddings.
I’d love to be able to stand up and say that I’m the right North Yorkshire Wedding Photographer for you and you should hire me. But the truth is, I may not be. And there’s absolutely no issue with that. I’m a huge believer that every couple has a certain photographer that is perfect for them. Not every photographer is suited to every couple. All North Yorkshire Wedding Photographers have their own skills, styles and ways of working. Like any artist! Your wedding is one of the most important days of your life. You need to be happy, and comfortable with the person you choose to document it. After all, they’ll be the ones up at the alter with you during one of the most intimate moments of your life.

North Yorkshire Weddings Venue Guide
Living in North Yorkshire, and being a North Yorkshire Wedding Photographer I have had the pleasure to work at or visit some amazing venues. We are lucky to be in an area with some of the most stunning backdrops and landscapes. Boy, we are spoilt! Given our location you can pretty much have your pick of any type of venue. Country houses, hotels, barns, mansion houses, quirky venues, city locations, seaside venues – we have it all. For me, a venue isn’t just about how it looks, it’s about how it feels. Being a wedding photographer, I get to see a lot of behind the scenes – meaning that I see what couples and guests don’t see. Here are some of my favourite venues from North Yorkshire. These are all venues that I have personally been to, either as a North Yorkshire Wedding Photographer or otherwise.
Not getting married in North Yorkshire?

A beautiful country hotel in the Yorkshire Dales
A perfect location for a wedding in a spectacular location
Solberge Hall
Solberge Hall is one of my most local wedding venues and I have been here many times. I can personally recommend it! The staff here are fantastic and the food is even better!
Solberge is a beautiful, versatile venue with beautiful gardens and panoramic views of the North Yorkshire Moors. Nestled in a secluded countryside setting. It’s a lovely hotel, full of character. The Bridal suite is to die for with it’s big windows and light and airy feel. It is the perfect place for your whole wedding party to get ready. On the days when we are lucky enough to get a proper sunset, this is the place you want to be. With a relatively neutral events room you can really put your own stamp on it.
This is the most incredible place to get married. On the site itself there is a small tipi that looks over sweeping views of The Dales, with glamping yurts and lodges to stay in. However, it’s most endearing feature is you can get married in the woodland just a short walk away, in the presence of the Druid’s Temple. Now that is a North Yorkshire Wedding Venue with a difference. It is absolutely stunning and has a magical feel to it.

When I first went to the venue I was blown away! I had heard it was nice but I was not expecting what I saw. 2 barns have been converted into spectacular, modern settings for your wedding. With a lake side view and views of surrounding Yorkshire countryside it is really breath taking. It doesn’t come much better than this! It’s ideal for your fairytale wedding. You can expect to be able to hire for the whole weekend with fantastic accommodation on site, carrying on the celebrations beyond your wedding day and making a get-away of it. It’s exclusive use too, meaning you won’t have that “conveyor belt” feeling and everything is 100% focused on you.

This is another venue that is really local to me. What I love about it is it’s a blank canvas and therefore so incredibly versatile. I have been to many weddings here and with every single one the venue looks very different. It’s a perfect place to be able to express your individuality as a couple and put your own stamp on your wedding. It is really clean and fresh and exudes warmth and cosiness. Set on the top of a hill it’s another venue with amazing views of the North Yorkshire Countryside. This is venue that allows you true flexibility. Not far from both Northallerton and Thirsk, both of which are on main trainlines there is easy access to get to Thief Hall, or your guests can take advantage of the on-site cottages. The team will make you feel like you and your partner are the only people in the world to get married there.
Now this is a venue with a bit of a difference. As part of Tennants Auctioneers your guests can browse the galleries and exhibitions. Stunning architecture and a stark. clean appearance it has a modern and unique feel to it. With a choice of different, well designed rooms it can host intimate weddings to grand affairs. The rooms are beautiful in their own right but are neutral enough to lend themselves to any appropriate theme. It’s certainly different if you are looking for something a bit less “run of the mill”
Who wouldn’t want to get married in a castle and be royalty for the day? Set in the heart of the Yorkshire Dales, this is another venue with stunning views. I am so lucky to be a North Yorkshire Wedding Photographer and be able to experience these stunning venues! The castle is steeped in history and boasts many of it’s original features. I certainly covered some miles with all those staircases the day I photographed here! Perfect for history buffs. For your wedding photography you are allowed access to the Battlements on the top of the castle, allowing you to have your couple’s portraits with the magnificent views of the Yorkshire Dales. The history and ambience of the castle speak for themselves, and it is a truly magical venue for your day.
Words cannot express how truly stunning this venue is! Spectacular and magical are the perfect words to describe it. So if you are looking for something rustic then look no further. Set in the beautiful countryside of North Yorkshire with views of Bolton Abbey. It’s a relatively new venue but has all the charm of something traditional. It is so warm and cosy and so full of beauty. It will exceed all your expectations. Complete with indoor BBQ, outdoor fire pits, open kitchen, uplights and medieval chandeliers. Who doesn’t love a chandelier? Guests can keep warm by the fire pits in the outdoor space whilst taking in the gorgeous views
As a North Yorkshire Wedding Photographer, one thing I love about Rudding Park is not only are the grounds beautiful, but in the event of “the Great British Weather” there are still many photo opportunities without having to step out of the door. If you value your wedding photography then you do need to consider where you will have your photos taken in the event of bad weather. Their grand staircase provides a must have shot. During the summer, you can take a rowing boat across to Love Island (no, we are not talking ITV2) where you will be able to enjoy some alone time – very romantic! Each room is decorated with grandeur but is the perfect canvas for your own twist. There is also a magnificent chapel on site which is just as beautiful as the rest of the hotel.
Words cannot express the love I have for this venue. It is truly scrumptious! A Georgian country house set in 200 acres of that lucious, green North Yorkshire countryside. It has 2 individual locations for you to choose, including exclusive hire of the house itself with or without a marquee, and the beautifully restored Fig house and walled garden (my personal favourite!). Set within a large estate, no matter which part you choose to host your wedding, you will feel like it’s exclusive use and there is no one around for miles.
Oh my days! What can I say about this venue? It’s absolutely perfect. Located just outside of Harrogate and once home to HRH Princess Mary during the 1920s, Goldsborough Hall is the perfect balance of class and elegance. You can truly feel like royalty during your big day. Sitting within beautiful landscaped gardens, the historic hall itself is wow-worthy, with a private royal entrance to the church next door. In the grounds there is a small woodland walk, a photo-worthy gazebo and a meadow which, during summer is the perfect setting for your wedding photography.
When I first visited this venue it was relatively young, but incredibly impressive! Set in the grounds of Settrington House owned by the Storey family, I was greeted by the family dog when I arrived (an easy way to distract me!). It is an exclusive venue, not open to the public with impressive architecture, huge pieces of art work and stunning outside places perfect for your wedding photography. The staff are warm and have a lovely welcome for everyone!
Rustic, glamorous and luxurious. I’m giving this venue 5 stars! Previously a working farm, the venue now holds some of North Yorkshire’s most beautiful weddings. Set near to the Harewood Estate between Harrogate and Leeds with classic english gardens and beautiful views. The interior is just amazing with it’s fabulous quirky touches and needs to be seen to be believed. Prosecco tap in the ladies’ loos – need I go on? Can you imagine saying your vows in front of this wall of stars?
The Treebridge Hotel is actually one of the venues I considered for my own wedding. It’s an understated, intimate venue with a beautiful light and airy reception room and clear views of Roseberry topping. Very stark and clean, with minimal decor providing couples with a blank canvas to put their own stamp on their wedding. You’ll impressed by the attentiveness an excellent service provided by the staff who are very welcoming.
If you are looking for a grand venue for a grand wedding then Crathorne Hall is definitely worth consideration. I can particularly recommend it for winter weddings when it has an extra magical feel to it! Crathorne is a grand, stately hotel which sits on the edge of the North Yorkshire moors with gorgeous views and gardens. It’s yet another ideal location for a North Yorkshire wedding photographer! It is worth considering their exclusive package if that is an option to you, What a building to have all to yourself. The unique essence of Crathorne Hall is that it has a feeling of a family-run business, and in no way feels corporate. Another bonus is that it’s one of those venues which will allow you to have the most beautiful photos even if the weather isn’t being kind to you.
Hello fairy tale wedding! You couldn’t get any grander than Allerton Castle! Steeped in history, its a picturesque Gothic stately home. The castle was once owned by the ‘Grand Old Duke of York’ and brother to King George IV. It is definitely a location for a fairy tale wedding. Spacious grounds, landscaped gardens and panoramic views over North Yorkshire countryside.
Ox Pasture Hall Hotel
A lovely country retreat, cut off from the world by the surrounding woodland. Near to the coast. The interior is clean and neutral, perfect for expressing your individuality as a couple. The gardens are lovely, complete with a lake and gazebos – perfect for your wedding photography.
Carlton Towers
A truly tremendous venue. Magnificent architecture, Gothic exterior, clock tower, sweeping staircases and stunning state rooms await you as you make your way down the driveway of this 250 acres of parkland. Towering above the landscape it will truly take your breath away. As seen on Masterchef!
Raven Hall Hotel
I love the coast, so with it’s magnificent sea views I think this venue is stunning. Raven Hall is nestled on a cliff side between Scarborough and Whitby. There is a choice of 2 suites within this venue depending on your tastes, or you can get married outside, overlooking the Yorkshire coast. The views alone are worth considering this beautiful venue.
The Stables at Cross Butts
Located just outside of Whitby with easy access. Tucked away behind the main restaurant is a permanent marquee offering country style weddings, full of character – with an around the world buffet! The food in itself is eye-popping! With lovely grounds complete with a fish pond and wooden bridge.
Birdsall House
Located east of York, Birdsall House offers amazing views over the gorgeous Yorkshire Wolds. The beautifully furnished Grade II listed building offers beautifully decorated reception rooms. Or, if you prefer more of an outdoor soirée, there are several scenic spots to pitch a marquee in its expansive gardens. From intimate weddings to 250 guests. Or if you would prefer a religious ceremony, St Mary’s Church of Birdsall is located just a short ride away. To end the evening, a bridal suite with an ensuite bathroom and a dressing room awaits you, with other beautiful suites for your guests. For a totally unique experience, camping in the grounds of Birdsall House is also a possibility.
Vendor recommendations

Limelight are an established photo booth hire company covering North Yorkshire and beyond, providing the best booth hire experience – One of the first in the UK! They have covered thousands of booth hires for weddings, parties and events in 9 years and have what it takes to deliver for any celebratory occasion or event! I used Limelight for my own wedding and I can personally recommend their service. I also used to work for Limelight so I can happily tell you that the service is 2nd to none and there is a lot of passion behind this small local business. You only have to listen to the roars of laughter from inside the booths to know it was worth it. Richard can provide lots of different options available to fit in with what you want, and if he doesn’t have it he’s a whizz at getting it for you.

Sister company to Limelight, and just generally awesome! Specialising in the very finest illuminated prop hire in the North Yorkshire. Adding the wow factor to your event. They hire 5 ft love letters, giant Mr & Mrs, mini Mr & Mrs, a GIANT heart, giant light up initials, wish trees and so much more. Their unique and stylish light signs can be used for photo opportunities and wedding decor with a difference. With the very best design made especially for them, twin bulbs, perfectly painted in a warm cream and the best carnival bulbs you’ll find.

Whether it’s your wedding, birthday or other event, Tim can really help to turn your day into something magical. He is a professional magician and a member of the prestigious Magic Circle. I have worked with Tim on many occasions and I can promise you wouldn’t be disappointed. He will dazzle, charm and entertain your guests – filling the room with roars of laughter. Tim is just awesome! Fun fact, Tim has also worked in radio for many years. If you grew up in the North East or North Yorkshire “during a certain time” should we say, then you likely listened to TFM radio. I’m talking about South Cleveland Garages (if you know, you know) Since my teens it has always been my radio station of choice (though I suspect Radio 2 is more suited to my age these days). If you were an avid TFM listener then you may have heard our very own Mr Lichfield on the air. I therefore demand that if you do hire Tim for your wedding (and you should), that you always refer to him as “the Tim Lichfield” because he’s famous…ish.
Before I move on I’d just like to clarify I wasn’t listening to Tim in my teens. He’s not that old!
Silver Service Singers
These guys are absolutely incredible! The talented singers go uncover at your event – you wouldn’t have a clue that they weren’t a part of the venue’s staff, before bursting into song and turning the atmosphere electric. They will have you dancing in your seats, on the tables, taking part in conga lines with a good deal of audience participation. Watch this video – I need say no more!
Anne was one of the suppliers for my own wedding! I came across her during a wedding fair and I can’t recommend her enough. Before I met her I hadn’t actually considered silk flowers – but I fell in love with her work instantly. She uses the best quality silk flowers, making it difficult to tell the difference between real and silk. Anne can work with you to create floral arrangements to fit in with your tastes and themes (even if you have no idea on flower names other than rose – like me!). And the best thing is, my wedding flowers look just as good as they did on the day itself.
Claire Hartley Makeup
Claire is another supplier that I chose for my own wedding and I have also worked with her in a professional capacity too. I have known Claire for many years, since we were young and have watched her turn into an incredible artist, so it was a natural choice for my own wedding make up. Claire offers an excellent service from planning right through to execution and will ensure that all your wants are covered. She is very much a calming presence on the morning of your wedding.
Videographers are an amazing addition to you day. I have worked with Simon before and he is an excellent videographer. Head over to his website to check out some of his work.
Simon is a fellow North Yorkshire photographer who I have worked with many times.
