Hold it right there! Let's pause for just a sec...

Further down this page is all the usual boomf you’d expect to find on a wedding photographer’s website and of course you are free to read it as your leisure – that’s what it’s there for. However, I believe I can show you exactly who I am as a photographer, (and if we’ll be a perfect match!) in under 2 minutes and without you reading all those things you’ve probably read a million times already… take a look at my little video by clicking here.

Happy, Crazy Love

Well hello there! Fancy seeing you here… As I’m sure you already know by now, I’m Katy, hopefully soon to be your North East Wedding Photographer! Bright, bold and energetic wedding photography is what I do best… sound good to you?

I really love weddings, they are so exciting. Full of romance, beauty, and unpredictability. Wedding photography is where I am at my happiest in my line of work.

I like to capture things as they unfold; documenting a true version on what is an important part of your story, without interfering too much. I approach every wedding day with a fresh outlook. Getting absorbed in the personality of your wedding, and getting hooked on the emotion, the chaos and the fun. Belly laughing so hard that you’re eyes stream with tears, now that’s the kind of photo you want to look back on and love. Not because you’ve seen it on Pinterest or because it’s on trend. Or Sandra from the office hired the most sought after photographer in the area with a 5 year waiting list and that’s what they did. But because it reminds you of why you’re married that wonderfully weird person beside you, and why you fell in love with them in the first place.

There are so many reasons why I love being a North East wedding photographer. Aside from all the mushy, lovey dovey, fantastically emotive stuff. Think of the North East area and the amazing environments that surround us. We literally have it all. Beautiful beaches and dramatic coastline, of the vibrant cities, areas steeped in history. Not to mention the stunning countryside of Northumberland. I have a North East venue guide below if you are still in search of your perfect venue, or if you are looking for other areas you can have a look at my North Yorkshire and County Durham pages.

If you would like to carry on your journey with me and find out more about my North East Wedding Photography service, please take a look at my portfolio.

Katy was our wedding photographer and I’m so glad we picked her. We are so happy with all of our pictures – the difficulty now is deciding which ones to print! We want them all! Katy has a great personality that made us feel at ease throughout the whole day. We had to rearrange our date and completely change our whole wedding and Katy has been so understanding and flexible with everything, working around us to best suit the day. We couldn’t of asked for more from her. Not only do we 100% recommend Katy but we will be booking her again for whenever we can have our wedding party.

Charlton Hall

For me, this will be at the top of every list! This is one of my absolute favourite venues. on first glance, it looks like your usual, traditional manor house, with a perfectly manicured lawns complete with fountain and landscape views. But once you have stepped through those doors, be prepared for a whole other world! Eccentric, magical, down right spectacular and wonderfully bizarre!

As you step through the door and into the hall you are greeted by a whole load of quirkiness, including a full size giraffe’s head mounted on the wall. Honestly, it’s absolutely bonkers but it looks truly amazing. It is a relatively new venue but I’m sure that it is already well on it’s way to being one of the top wedding venues in the country.

Alnwick Castle

If you’re a massive Harry Potter or Downton Abbey fan ( I’m guilty as charged Your Honour), can you imagine getting married in one of the locations these were filmed? Imagine having your wedding photos where Harry Potter first learned to fly, or seeing your guests taking part in the broomstick training taught by the resident wizards!

Film locations aside, it truly is a wonderful place. When I have visited with my family I just loved how different, and warm it felt from any other historical castle. There is something magical about the thought of getting married somewhere steeped in so much history, where you could begin writing yours. In the heart of Northumberland over looking the beautiful landscape of the North East.

Eshott Hall

Set amidst beautiful manicured lawns and woodland, tucked away from outside life, sits Eshott Hall. A beautiful Georgian country house coated in Wisteria. In Spring, daffodils coat the grounds, reminding us of new life. Eshott has it’s own converted chapel, just a short walk away from the venue where you can hold your ceremony if you choose not to use one of the on-site venues, including an outdoor option. It’s an exclusive use venue, so you can relax knowing that it’s all about the 2 of you, making it even more special!

The grounds are stunning and extremely well kept, which will excite any North East Wedding Photographer!

Rockliffe Hall

As the only AA-rated 5 red star resort in the north, it is the number one choice for couples wanting the ultimate 5* wedding. Rockliffe Hall is the absolute height of luxury. Rockliffe Hall offers a range of different wedding spaces, from small intimate options to the beautiful Victorian Orangery set within the Old Hall, to the contemporary Rockliffe Suite for larger weddings.

Beamish Hall

Hands up if this is your favourite! (I’m raising both hands just in case you were wondering!). I don’t even this I can begin to describe how lovely this award winning North East wedding venue is, it is spectacular and a perfect place to host a dream wedding. A grade II listed building within the Derwent Valley, just a stones throw away from Beamish museum surrounded by tiers of greenery. Shafto Hall is an amazing place for your ceremony. It has a beautiful vintage look yet is light and airy – not a mix you see very often. However, in my opinion it’s best feature in relation to weddings is the stunning Winter Gardens room. Beautifully decked out with draping and fairy lights, it takes on a whole different vibe to the rest of the hotel and is secluded enough to think that you are the only ones in the whole building. A hotel full of charm, but with a modern twist.

To end the night, guests can choose from 48 spacious double bedrooms with stunning views over the British countryside.

The Biscuit Factory

Not this is a venue you might want to consider if you’re looking for something a little bit outside of the box! Situated in Newcastle City Centre, It is contemporary art gallery with urban industrial architecture.  The gallery space is a gorgeous place to hold your ceremony – it really is stylish and elegant, and with it’s contemporary art it really gives you some interesting surroundings. the Biscuit Room is a great location for your reception and party! With a minimalist style you can put your own stamp on the design of the room.

The Morritt Hotel and Garage Spa

A delightful country house with a warm and welcoming atmosphere in the Teasdale countryside. Located near Barnard castle, just off the A66 allowing easy access for your travelling guests. With beautiful, well-kept gardens opening up to beautiful views of the surrounding countryside, you’ll be spoilt for choice for locations for your wedding photography. Just down the road is the stunning Greta Bridge where the river gently flows beneath. When it comes to the civil ceremony and reception itself, you can choose from one of five venues – ranging from space of 16 guests up to 300 guests. There is something to suit everyone at The Morritt Hotel. A place full of character as well as exceptional hospitality.

Simply sumptious

Bamburgh Castle

What North East Wedding Photographer doesn’t love a castle? Set in the most beautiful location with views for miles of the Northumberland coastline. It even has it’s own private beaches and you can say you’re vows right there on the beach! now if that does not sound perfect then I don’t know what does! Steeped in history with magnificent state rooms, terraces overlooking Northumberland’s beaches or room for a marquee. It’s the perfect place to be royalty on your special day.

The Black Horse Beamish

Set in the Red Row Estate, the Black Horse Beamish, located in North East England, is the perfect backdrop for a decadent fairytale wedding celebration. Picture your wedding in the Orchard marquee, surrounded by fabulously landscaped gardens and apple orchards with up to 250 of your friends and family. Alternatively, the enchanting 300-year-old George Ridley room offers high ceilings, open fires, stone floors, and panoramic views over the valley for up to 80 guests in the evening (with a maximum of 54 at the ceremony and 44 at the reception). To end the night, up to 10 guests can exclusively hire Red Row Retreat house or choose from twelve suites available on Old Red Row. The Black Horse Beamish is one of my favourite venues as a North East Wedding Photographer due to the friendly, relaxed style and open spaces for your portraits and group shots. At certain times of the year there is lavender in full bloom up the hillside behind the venue which looks stunning.

Which Venue to Choose For Your Big Day?

Truth is, no one can tell you that!

If you’ve got got that ring on your finger, then that beautiful mind of yours is likely to be working overtime with all the endless potential prospects for your perfect wedding now that it’s time to start the wedding planning. Whether you’re getting ready for a big full day celebration a few years from now or an intimate collection of your most loved within the new few months, there is a lot to do to pull together your perfect wedding. Even the most scaled back weddings can take a good deal of planning. However simple you try to keep it – it’s rarely that simple. Before you dive in all guns blazing, the first thing you need to consider is your venue and get your location locked in before anything else. Here are some top tips to help you find your perfect wedding venue.

Wedding venues are the backbone of your wedding. Without a wedding venue or a wedding location – you can’t have a wedding! It’s the first box to check when planning the big day, way before you go to pick out the wedding dress or suit. And, dare I say, even before you pick out your amazing North East Wedding Photographer! The venue will set the tone and the feel for the whole event and createthe backdrop for what will be your biggest moment. Venue scouting is a must for all engaged couples, as wedding venues in the North East, North Yorkshire and County Durham are especially picturesque and varied. There are many possibilities to check out. In the area you can find all the styles of venue you could possibly think of (with the exception of a glorious Hawaiian-style location, I’m afraid our beaches fail on that front!).

Some couples have a good idea of the type of venue they want to tie the knot long before the wedding planning is in full swing, while other couples are starting with a blank slate and perhaps aren’t so sure. Whatever point you are at with your process, get the venue to the top of your list so that you can have the wedding of your dreams. Booking your venue can take one of the biggest weight off your shoulders and allow you to start thinking about the smaller wedding details. Once you have your venue, everything else will start to fall into place.

How Much Does Wedding Photography Cost?

Here is a quick guide, pulled together to help couples find the best North East wedding photographer for their own needs. I am a big believer in there being a perfect match of photographer for every couple and budget can play a big part in that.

The first point to make is that there is no set standard for wedding photography pricing. Every photographer works differently will have their own way in the way they approach their work, including they price their work. You are not likely to find true like for like comparisons. This can make it very hard to compare North East wedding photographers based on the services and packages they offer. Obviously you need to be clear on what service you are being provided and what is included in that, especially as you don’t want to avoid any confusion, misunderstandings or unexpected surprises arising after the wedding. If I was to advise you on one thing, it would be to be to focus on what you really value personally and what your “must-haves” are when trying to compare one photographer to another (e.g. whether there is an engagement shoot included or if you would really want a printed album).

Wedding photography prices vary widely from the top to the bottom of the country, even locally. Factors such as the services each photographer offers as their base package, their add on services, products, as well as their experience make a big difference.

Bridebook is a popular wedding planning website featuring all manor of supplies and it undertakes yearly surveys – their Report into the UK estimates that the total that couple’s spend around £1,200 on their wedding photography. With a variation of £560 between the average in London and the average in the North East, including counties such as North Yorkshire, County Durham and Northumberland. However, this report doesn’t consider the difference between full day weddings and part day weddings, and this figure may also include add on services.

This is only an average and it’s not uncommon to find inexperienced photographers who are happy to cover weddings for as little as £200 through to the industry leaders offering premium services and charging 5 figures.

However, as a warning, with wedding photography it is very much a case of you get what you pay for. There are many stories out there about inexperienced wedding photographers ruining a couple’s big day. You only have to do a search on Google to find some of the horror stories.

Tara & Chris Charlton Hall

WOW, Charlton Hall…just wow! I cannot begin to describe how amazing this venue is. It’s definitely right up there in my favourites. A relatively new venue, it throws all of the norms out of the window. As you pull up to the venue, it looks like your normal stately home style of venue, an 18th century hall located within a private 150-acre country estate in Northumberland.

Chloe & TomWylam Brewery

Chloe and Tom wed the knot at the amazing Wylam Brewery. It was a great day full of laughs, epic dance moves and awesome food…I do love food.
The morning before I even got to Chloe was quite comical. It was one of those mornings where I thought everything was going to go wrong, thank goodness I was wrong.
